App Store Update: January 14
Every day hundreds of new apps make their debut on the App Store, and hundreds more are updated or reduced in price. We have sifted through the noise and highlighted those select few that might be worth your attention.
Alpha Squadron – ($2.99)
Leading off this new week of updates is a throwback to Factor 5’s incredible Star Wars: Rogue Squadron series from the N64 and GameCube: Martian Monkey’s Alpha Squadron. You’ll jump into the cockpit of a X-Wing-esque starfighter and blasts baddies in space, over desert landscapes, next to floating cities in the sky and through more environments that will trigger that longing for the galaxy far, far away.
Labyrinth Lunacy: Roller Coaster Marble Maze – ($0.99)
It’ll take a steady hand to guide this marble all the way through the shoots, traps and obstacles and get it safely to the goal. Are you up for the challenge?
UpWords – ($1.99)
What with the popularity of Words with Friends, I would have thought this classic riff on Scrabble would have made its way into the App Store long ago. Well, it’s officially there now – UpWords tasks you to build vocabulary words one letter at a time just like those other board games, but new tiles can also be placed on top of previously-played letter. So “CAT” can transform into “HAT.” And so on.
Trainyard – ($0.99)
This color-matching train-sorting puzzler was sitting happily down at the 99 cent level last summer, but its price jumped up to $2.99, then up further to $4.99, so it’s been a while since it’s been affordable. It’s back under a buck now, though, so move fast and grab it before its price goes up again.
Night Flight – (Free)
A teddy bear takes off on an aerial adventure through the wild, dark blue yonder in this free flight game from the makers of Crumble Zone.
Running Dead – (Free)
What’s scarier than The Walking Dead? The Running Dead, naturally. Get your daily dose of zombie-slaying action for free right here.
Repulze – ($0.99)
Fans of the Wipeout and F-Zero franchises should check out the futuristic hovercraft racing action of Repulze, especially since the 1.0.1 update just went live to better balance the gameplay.
Ravenmark: Scourge of Estellion – ($9.99)
The new Raven’s Rise campaign is now available in Ravenmark, and it features gigantic armored frogs. How can you go wrong?
That’s it for today! The New Year is still young, so make a New Year’s resolution to not miss a single ASU all year – and help yourself succeed by subscribing to the App Store Update via email.
